What is the best show lead?
Q
'Hi Lynda,
We've started our handling classes with our Afghan girl and I was wondering
about leads. Can you clue me in on what would be the best way to go as far
as type and length of lead? '
A
Hi, I prefer the Resco
leads.
This is also what George Alston (top number of Best in Show wins in
his career, 315 or something,
he does handling seminars now, I took Rose to
one) recommends.
I also like the ones with just a loop, to put on any
collar, and use a nylon choke type collar with them
(or a Resco slip collar
IF I can find one - they are hard to find).
Long enough, but not too long
(3-4 ft?). I am speaking of my Afghan Hounds here, this could vary according to breed.
The Resco will fold up nicely in your hand, and not fly all
over the place like nylon.
Gives a good grip, also. Rose prefers the
resco with both collar and lead combined,
and it has a clip at the top of the
collar part, to adjust size.
Be careful with those though, if the dog
pulls backwards it can come off.
You will only find this stuff from
catalogs, online, or at vendors at dog shows.
The local Pet Smarts, etc.
don't seem to carry any of that show stuff.
They should be available through J-B
Wholesale,
Hosanna Afghan Hounds use J-B Almond Concentrate shampoo, and
we highly recommend it. We
also find the best selection and prices on
grooming and other dog stuff at J-B Wholesale. Best way
to order is by secure
server from our convenient links on our website, or right here:
and also perhaps through
Dogwise.com
Dogwise also has some
showing supplies, bait bags, collars & leads, etc.
Here is a search
form:
