Major and Ruby live here at Hosanna Afghan Hounds. Major is a goofy boy who takes after his dad in many ways. We had been having a lot of fun with him, and we LOVE him SO. He is just beginning to mature, and in every way seems worthy to carry on after his sire. He is like Moses was in type, expression, and attitude, and closely fits our ideal image of the type of Afghan Hound we want to continue to produce. We were just thinking (when we took these photos just a couple of months ago) of bringing him out to shows again.
This boy was so full of promise, and his sister Ruby had already won our first ever 5 point major (from BBE). His show record is accounted later on this page.

On January 31, at barely 2 years and 3 months old, Major was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma. There are no good options with this thing, and due to our family's depleted resources (because of lawsuit abuse) we don't have even all of those choices. All we can do now is love him for just a little while longer, then help him cross the Rainbow Bridge.
We have let Major run free every day this week. He has had such a ball chasing the cats all over the farm. He is SO beautiful, so good and sweet. The kids have been feeding him special treats all week too, and a special dinner tonight. He has trouble breathing already. That thing is strangling him. Tomorrow I will take

him to the vet. We do not want our sweet 'wookie' to hurt.
This morning (Feb. 6, 2003), Major finally achieved what his great grandpa, Alf, spent years trying to do and never did. He treed 11 of our cats all at once, in the huge old maple out by the chicken house. There were 5 Toms, 4 females, and 2 from the back barn whose sex we haven't determined, like ornaments on a Christmas tree. This is now the new record for our farm. Alf's old record was 6. I did not get a photograph, but a heart picture of him standing there so proud.
Now he sleeps. I had no flowers for his grave, so God sent him a blanket of snow.

Our family ( with 4 children still at home - see them all here ) has made sacrifices for years to be able to do what we've done with our dogs so far. In the past 2 years, our family has been financially devastated by Lawsuit Abuse. For more information about the Case of Hosanna Song of Mercy (Major's aunt), please see A Plea for Mercy at the bottom of our Hosanna Junior Handling Team Home Page We never dreamed that allowing a Jr. Handler from a wonderful family to co-own our show dog could end up costing our family more than $18,000. This child was entrusted with her co-ownership as a GIFT, dependent on CONDITIONS. This afluent family, who very well could have afforded to buy a dog for their child, never gave us a cent for Mercy - and then allowed their child to violate the conditions and terms of that gift. 'Name withheld' who now 'owns' Major's aunt Mercy (aka 'Sheba') could never have 'won' without the testimony of our (ex) Jr. handler co-owner, who 'misrepresented the truth' in a courtroom. And her practicing crying with the attorney in the hallway of the courthouse (my daughter SAW her!) was effective too. Our family may never recover financially, and now we are unable to provide Major with any options other than a short trip to Rainbow Bridge. There are no words to describe how my heart hurts for Major - but even more for this 'girl', who put her performance on before God. We continue to pray for forgiveness for her.
Sincerely, Lynda Farley

In addition to his first small starts at shows, (see panel at right), Major was 10 year old Richard Farley's partner when he debuted in Junior Handling at the Western Hound Association Specialty show in Long Beach, CA this past summer. See several cute photos of him with Richard on Richard's Junior Handling page, including a moving one where they are in perfect step!
Just a few weeks after losing Major's sire, Edwin Farley handled Major at the AHCA National Specialty show in the 12-18 month Sweepstakes class, and got 4th place. There are some photos of them on our Junior Handling Team's National page.

Major's First Shows: On April 28, 2001, at 6 months and 1 day old, Major went to his very first show at Clarksville KC, TN. The Judge was Mr. CP Herendeen. Major was handled by his breeder/owner (me) & performed very well. He placed 2nd in a class of 3. The puppy classes were NOT divided and both the other puppies were VERY nice and well behaved 11 month old 1/2 brothers of the previous year's National Specialty Winner & multiple Group placer at Westminster KC! We are VERY proud of Major, and have high hopes for him.
6/8/01 Skyline KC, VA, 7 month old Major was RWD, Judge Mrs. J. McGinnis
6/29/01 I was privileged to attend the Long Beach cluster, and had a wonderful time. : ). At Afghan Hound Club of California, Major placed fourth in the puppy sweeps - Pam McQueen judging, and 4th in regular classes (very large & VERY competitive class) with Michelle Billings judging. He was in the 9-12 month class and it was just a couple of days past his 9 month birthday. He was handled by Linda Randal. NOTE: I JUST NOW NOTICED AS I WAS PROOFREADING THIS PAGE THAT THE PHOTOGRAPHER HAS THE WRONG CLASS SIGN IN THE ABOVE PHOTO. THESE PUPPIES WERE 9 MONTHS OLD ON JUNE 27TH, AND THIS SHOW WAS ON JUNE 29TH. HE WAS IN 9-12 CLASS.
